District Awards for Teacher Excellence (DATE) Program appropriated approximately $147 million in state funds, which are targeted for 203 districts participating in Cycle 1 of the program. The purpose of the DATE program is to provide funding to support the establishment of district-wide goals and the implementation of a financial awards system designed to: 1) award teachers for positively impacting student achievement, 2) target the district's most in-need campuses to improve teacher quality, and 3) create capacity and sustainability for improved instruction . . . .

Current Research:
TEA has partnered with Vanderbilt University to evaluate the short-term and long-term effectiveness of the DATE program on a number of key program outcomes such as student achievement and teacher turnover, mobility, and quality. The first annual evaluation report is scheduled to be published in fall 2009.
